It was Cicero that said that the function of wisdom is to discriminate between good and evil. And it was Edmund Burke, who said that one that confounds good and evil is an enemy to good.
Last week it became clear that President Obama was failing in the first and succeeding in the second. The so-called Leader of the Free World has said that “The Supreme Leader (of Iran) has issued a fatwa against the development of nuclear weapons.”
In fact, such a fatwa was never issued by Supreme Leader Khamenei and does not exist; neither the Iranian regime nor anybody else can present it. MEMRI has conducted in-depth research with regard to this “fatwa” and is published reports demonstrating that it is a fiction. Indeed, the deception has been promoted by the Iranian regime and its spokesmen for several years. Each time it was mentioned, the “fatwa” was given a different year of issue – for example, 2005, 2007 or 2012 – but the text of the “fatwa” was never presented.
The news that the American president and the Iranian leader have been chewing the fat on the telephone is disturbing. Obama should realise that if he allows himself to be duped by the Iranians, then the fatwa will really hit the fire.
