My Mideast Punchlines: all alone am I ……

Senior Western sources told The Sunday Times Saudi Arabia has decided to become a nuclear-weapons state.

Saudi Arabia will purchase nuclear weapons from Pakistan, according to a former U.S. Defense official.

Speaking to Britain’s The Sunday Times, the unnamed official said:

“There has been a longstanding agreement in place with the Pakistanis and the House of Saud has now made the strategic decision to move forward.”

Saudi Arabia, which financed much of Pakistan’s nuclear program, will buy nuclear weapons “off-the shelf.”

Small Fist‘Look at his face,’ screamed BBC TV’s Match of the Day commentator Barry Davies when stocky striker Franny Lee scored a goal in the 70s, ‘Just look at his face!’ Well, yes, Lee was indeed  beaming from ear to ear. Not so U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who looks glum and bemused at the Gulf Cooperation Summit. The American administration has been attempting to ameliorate Gulf fears about Iran’s nuclear program.

And notice something else: Kerry is on his own. And that just about sums up the position of his boss in the White House. No one with any sense thinks the Iranian nuclear project should not have blasted to Kingdom Come eons ago, if only to allay countries like the fundamentalist Wahabist Saudi Arabia from shopping in the Pakistani atom bomb bazaar. My main worry is that Iran has already gatecrashed the Sunni Supermarket Sale before the doors have officially been opened. In other words, the Iranians are already in cahoots with Kahuta (where Pakistani bombs are stored, just outside Islamabad). But what can you expect when commonsense has been atomised by the w…..er in the White House.
