Unfortunately, there’s only one thing inevitable in the Middle East: war. When it comes to Israel and the Palestinians, one side wants the other side dead. Ditto Iran. Ditto Hezbollah. The perfect recipe for war, and the perfect excuse for a preemptive strike. The question is: against one of the dreadful triumvirate, or against all? One at a time, or all at once?
It’s a nightmare scenario whichever way you look at it.
As I see it, the biggest danger is on Israel’s northern border with Lebanon. Hezbollah, supported by Iran, is bristling with 150,000 rockets which it is itching to use, thus presenting a clear and present danger to the Jewish state. The U.S. has bunker-busting bombs, which would be a huge way for The Donald to concretely help Israel. Failing that, Israel should make its own. However, that still might not be enough to rid the civilised world of ‘Uncle Hassan’ (Nasrallah), because Hezbollah’s leader, fearful of an Israeli targeted assassination, appears to spend most of his miserable life inhabiting some hell-hole close to the earth’s core.
