My Mideast Punchlines: basket cases…

An Iranian lawyer and human rights activist was sentenced to 30 years in prison and flogging by a revolutionary court, Radio Farda reported on Monday.

Amir Salar Davoudi was found guilty of “propaganda against the state” for setting up a channel on Telegram denouncing human rights abuses in Iran.

According to the report, he is also set to be flogged 111 times.

biffThe ayatollahs might claim they are being lenient. I mean, in North Korea Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un uses more novel ways of dealing with “enemies of the state”. Kim’s uncle by marriage was reportedly executed in 2013 by anti-aircraft weaponry, He was vaporised after “confessing” to crimes that included plotting a coup, the dissemination of pornography (a perennial favourite), failing to applaud enthusiastically, and causing a monument honouring Kim to be erected “in a shaded corner”. Shady, indeed.

Iran and North Korea, buddies and basket cases. Keep turning the screw, Mr Trump.
