Jeremy Hunt, the foreign secretary, has branded Jeremy Corbyn “pathetic”, after he questioned whether the UK had “credible evidence” Iran was behind attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman.
US President Donald Trump has insisted Iran was behind the attacks, citing footage that Washington says shows Iranian forces removing an unexploded mine off the hull of one of the ships – hours after the initial detonations.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has said the US “immediately jumped to make allegations against Iran without a shred of factual or circumstantial evidence”.
So there you have it, the supreme comedy double act: Jezza and Javad. The first will support every lie as long as it’s against Britain or America, and the second will also support every lie as long as it’s against Britain or America. The first is an irreligious hardliner opposed to our civilisation, and the second is a religious hardliner opposed to our civilisation. Corbyn inhabits an Alice in Wonderland world where he, in his Lenin cap, is the Mad Hatter, while the ever-smiling Zarif plays the Cheshire cat. Joined at the hip, they continue to entertain us. It would be truly comic were it not so sinister.
