Iran has threatened tit-for-tat seizures of British oil tankers after the detention of one of its vessels in Gibraltar.
Mohsen Rezaie, head of the politically important Expediency Council in Tehran, accused Britain of bullying Iran after Royal Marines took over the supertanker Grace 1, which was allegedly bound for Syria on Thursday.
He said that the Islamic Revolution had never “initiated tension” during its 40-year history.
Come again, Mr Rezaie? Never initiated tension, eh? Iran has never meddled in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon or the Gaza Strip? It has also never planted bombs on oil tankers in the Gulf? Now, he may be uglier than Shrek, but it’s the size of Mr Rezaie’s nose that is more than a little concerning. Like Pinocchio’s, it has tended to burgeon the more he lies. Of course the name of the council he heads gives it all away. Perhaps he should take another look at the meaning of the word, expedience:
The quality of being convenient and practical despite possibly being improper or immoral.
