Binyamin Netanyahu has overruled his ambassador and backed the right-wing Hungarian government’s campaign against the Jewish billionaire George Soros.
Official posters denouncing Mr Soros have been described by Hungary’s main Jewish organisations as anti-Semitic.
But Bibi says the Hungarian-born financier threatens democracy by funding charities critical of the Israeli prime minister.
The Hungarian government has paid for billboards across the country denouncing Mr Soros as a threat to national security. “Let’s not allow Soros to have the last laugh,” reads one, next to a photo of the smiling banker.
Well, I’ll be blunt about my position on this affair. I despise Soros. Enough said.
